In this role you will liaise with drug discovery partners (internal and external) to ensure smooth workflows. You will provide timely and effective bioanalytical strategies, methods and high-quality data reports of small molecule and novel modality molecules to drug discovery projects. You will evaluate and implement new technologies in the lab to improve efficiency and analytical performance. You will lead a diverse bioanalytical team of 9 scientists. About the Role
Your main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Lead and manage an experienced team of 9 lab scientists for bioanalysis in drug discovery phase.
- Collaborate as a subject matter expert in bioanalysis with the global discovery bioanalysis team, biotransformation experts, in vitro and in vivo colleagues, as well as chemists and project teams to help drive discovery projects to success.
- Provide internal analytical support for studies investigating the pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) properties of new low molecular weight and novel modality drug molecules.
- Provide leadership and insights for the team to support developing challenging bioanalysis methods for custom discovery compounds to provide quality, reliable, decision-making data.
- Evaluate, support and implement new technologies in small and novel modality molecule bioanalysis such as LC-MS/MS, LC- and FIA-ICP-MS, SFC-MS/MS and LC-HRMS to maintain cutting edge performance, as well as automation and software related tasks.
- Guide the outsourcing part of the group in support of bioanalysis for PK and PKPD discovery studies and collaboration with CROs for scientific exchange.
- Comply with Swiss and Novartis-specific rules and regulations, e.g., HSE, Novartis non-GLP quality standards.
What you bring to the role:
- B.S. or M.S. or PhD degree with 5-10 years of bioanalytical science experience as a lab scientist and as a lab leader and manager in industry.
- An intelligent, collaborative and effective leadership style with experience leading a diverse high performing discovery BA lab team and engaging with cross-functional teams.
- Expertise in discovery bioanalysis, advanced methods and technologies for small molecules and novel modality compounds.
- Experience in a variety of analytical technologies such as LC-MS (low- and high-resolution technologies), SFC-MS, LC-ICP-MS as well as automation for sample handling.
- Advantageous to have experience in LC-MS of large molecules or other novel modality compounds.
- Strong knowledge of quantitative bioanalytical science fundamentals and a thorough understanding of the drug discovery field.
- Good understanding of the pharmacokinetic science, the drug discovery and development phases, as well as a general awareness of the outsourcing operational excellence.
- High motivation, curiosity and creativity and the ability to thrive in a matrixed work environment and communicate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively and innovatively.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English is a must; some knowledge of German considered beneficial.
